I had just recently read an article about how sick passengers on NYC subways bring the system to a crawl. On our way to JFK, we got to experience that first hand, spending 30 minutes on the platform at the 53rd street station due to a sick passenger at the preceding stop. Fortunately for us, we were oblivious to just how much that affected our schedule, which we only realized when we got to an empty gate area and were ushered on as seemingly the last passengers.
About 18 hours and a layover in Santiago later we made it to Buenos Aires. We really don't have a good sense for the layout of the city yet, but we are staying in Recoleta, which seems to be a good area - if not a little gritty on the surface in parts. That said, we were able to find a nice restaurant for late lunch and are happy to find the exchange rate once again working in our favor (hello 14:1).
After some late lunch drinks we made it over to Teatro Colon for the Opera Beatrix Cenci. The theater is stunning, both inside and out, and our seats were as good as we had expected. But what we had not expected was the content of the Opera - we had no idea that the subject was so disturbing (incest), and the costumes so unique (nude). Maybe Opera folks arent quite the stodgy crowd that we had imagined them to be?? After failing to make sense of key parts of the Beatrix plot, over an entirely too large dinner, we have hit our collective wall and are turning in.
Pictures to follow.
I'm glad you made your flight and made it safely. Enjoy your stay, I look forward to hearing about all your adventures. Love you. Auntie April
