(Iceland) We Blue It

Today we did some pretty domestic things like take a jog and go grocery shopping, so to reward ourselves for this stupendous outlay of effort we  spent the day at the Blue Lagoon complete with steam bath, mineral skin treatment and about three hours in the geothermal pool. Even better was that the percentage of men wearing speedo/thongs is very low as southern europeans don't seem to make it out here.
We also learned some facts about Iceland that we would like to share:
   - when you meet someone here you go to the country's website and make sure you are not related;
   - food is expensive! like 20 per pound for snow peas expensive!
   - if there is a stop sign in place of a rotary we havent found it;
   - we still haven't heard sigur ros or bjork on the radio but have heard ryan seacrest and that just makes us angry;
   - it does not get dark this time of year and it is really disorienting. the picture of our apartment was taken at 10:30pm.
Over and out from the North Atlantic.

The Blue Lagoon.  That water is naturally warm and filtered.  Not pictured is that some of the water is diverted for power.
The 'lunar' landscape all around the iceland is especially pronounced around the Blue Lagoon.

One more pic.

(Iceland) 1000km road trip

We just returned from a 16 hour road / hiking trip spanning from reykjavic to kohm and all points between. Words will do it no service so here is the best we could do in pairing down our pictures to a reasonable amount as we have about 200 from today alone.
Post script - chris we owe you for the phone and camera...it has immediatly replaced both of ours for the rest of the trip.

Some scenery on the Southern shore.

Vatnajokull glacier up close and personal.

Bay with small icebergs.  Not pictured are the seals.

River leading to the North Atlantic.

A little closer to Vatnajokull.
One of the view patches of color, looking northward into the interior.
Table plateau about 2.5 hours outside of Reykjavic.
Looking to the interior again.  Exactly where, we can't be sure.
More beautiful landscapes on the South shore.

(Iceland) Stars were born today

Today was a Reykjavic day which meant of course the harbor, opera house, coffee shops, parks and Icelandic Coast Guard (which Amanda had to be restrained from joining). But the real story is that we were chosen to be in an upcoming Icelandic show. Now sure, they pretended to be filming the 'stars' of the show with us in the background but it is clear to everyone out there that we were the real target!

The cathedral of Reykjavic which was our beacon to free downtown parking!

(Iceland) For a country named Iceland...

You sure are sunny and warm! We are in Hapnorfjordfjdfrtotdotta (ok, I may have added one or two extra syllables but not many) just outside of Reykjavic and are about to head out. We will be sure to report with the diligence of a cable news reporter what we find...

PS - we found Suky's mirror opposite. The picture is grainy but this cat is climbing vertically straight down bannisters on the third floor.

Iceland Travel facts:
 - Airline: IcelandAir.  Cheap flight from the East Coast to Europe with free 4 day layover in Iceland.
 - Lodging: AirBnB. Staying just outside of Reykjavic for about $50 per night (conversion is currently 125 Icelandic krona to the dollar).
 - Transportation. Unfortunately, car.  There are a total of 300,000 people in all of Iceland so mass transit is minimal and non-existent to get to the natural sites.  Tour buses are an option but expensive, fast-paced, and large groups.
