(Copenhagen -> Oslo) The Slow Trek North

Today we finally got up at a reasonable time and we were able to see a bit of Copenhagen before our bus out of town. After jamming our bags into a locker at the train station we got our hands on (delicious) lattes and baked goods. From there it was off to the city hall (Radhus), which is fully open to the public and pretty impressive - unfortunately we didn't have time to wait for a tour of the clock tower. Instead, on the little time we had left, we went to the Christiansborg Slot (a large palace that is home to Parliament and used by the Royal Family, we think - there wasn't much time to learn) to get our fill of free observation decks. When we began our ascent the weather was sunny and pleasant, but by the time we got outside on the tower a full-blown rain/wind storm had developed. The result is that our Copenhagen-selfie is now just a testament to the wind.

And with that we were off on two buses that would take us under and over the North Sea, through Sweden and into Oslo. The ride was pleasant enough (Swebus seems to be a good bus line) despite the usual bus issues - crying babies, late passengers and customs delays. But we didn't mind getting into Oslo at 12:45am because we firmly believe we caught sight of a wisp of the Northern Lights (forecasts show it was 'possible' that we did, if extremely unlikely), and more importantly we had a great apartment booked that we spent good money on.

Oh wait - the apartment is nothing like advertised. So now instead of planning a cross-country skiing trip we are trying to get a partial refund since it is too late to move.

Oh well, by all first appearances Oslo is a nice city and we are looking forward to checking it out over the next two days with some extra money in hand.
