I "may" have failed to set the alarm clock, so after waking up at noon we only had time for coffees and a smoothie.
The first cathedral was the Sevilla Cathedral, a gothic-era cathedral built on the site of an old mosque.
It has everything you'd expect of the largest cathedral in the world. Like the remains of Columbus (allegedly).
Intricate ceilings.
Some weird ghoulish details.
Mountains of gold plundered from the "New World."
And a 1655 painting that had St. Joseph carved out, sold in New York, and subsequently found by an art aficionado (it took some looking but we found it).
But the Islamic past is still there, side by side with the cathedral. Like the orange gardens.
The old Islamic gates behind the Christian ones.
And most notably, the old minaret, to which the Christians added a belltower to convert it.
And now let visitors walk up to get amazing views over the city.
Afterwards, we navigated our way through the "kissing alleys" on our way to the second cathedral...the home of Sevilla FC, the defending Europa Cup champions.
Where we had 4th row seats.
And saw Sevilla tie the match on a PK with 5 minutes left.
And win it on a corner kick on the final play of the match.
All that was left to do was take a leisurely (though starving) stroll through miles of alleys and streets, bumping into a Catholic processional, before dinner and Sangria.
