Brian turned 29 today and today was also our first day of work in return for free lodging and inspiring homemade meals three times each day. We started out with some porridge topped with feigoa...a delicious New Zealand fruit grown in our host's yard. We spent the morning wiping down the walls and sweeping the floor of the car park (garage) and turning over raised garden beds. Later we took a 40 minute drive to our host's new coastal property which has a view of snowy mountains on New Zealand's south island and the tumultous waters flowing through the straight between the islands. Here we mainly helped plant grasses along the slopes behind their future home. Tomorrow we'll be back there to do more planting and enjoy some more delicious meals.
I hope you know how lucky you are to have done this at 29! You made a great decision in taking this trip.
