(Florence, Italy) Due giorni da Firenze

Today we set a slow pace and happily stuck to it. We spent a good three hours at the Opera Di Santa Maria (the Duomo) and while the interior is not as asthetic as other cathedrals the view from the top of the cupola is awesome. Now we will make the full disclosure that Brian hates climbing over a dome because the physics don't make sense to him (this was his idea, fyi) but we did see at least one child who handled it worse.

After the Duomo we set out for Michaelangelo's Piazza which overlooks the city and the rose garden on it's face. We were so impressed by this park that after celebrating the end of Daniele's exams (who together with Giada is hosting us) we set back out for the park to watch sunset with some wine and cheese where we were regalled by an 'interesting' musical duo. With that we call it a night and will be up early in the mornong to make a run at the Uffizi Gallery.

Sunset over Florence from Michaelangelo's Piazza.

What a wimp, climbing toward the top of the cupola (dome).

A beautiful portrait from the top of the dome, if we do say so ourselves.

Another view from the top - we never did use those lenses.

Night-time over Florence, post free concert.

Inside the cathedral.  What is not superclear (because they don't let you walk under it) is the kind of perverse paintings on the inside of the dome).

Rose gardens opposite Florence.

If you squint you can see some physical and sexual torment of men in hell.  Perfectly positioned to instill fear in the congregations.

Photos do not do these two justice.

A small corrider going verically straight down over the dome. Brian is at the bottom.

What is she thinking?!

  1. Loved Florence. As you stated, the view from the cupola is magnificent! I'm only to Florence and this is amazing so far.
