Today we had a bit of a love/hate day with the Rome. Well mostly we tried to love it and it was a jerk. However, for this post we will focus on our efforts and leave out the rude Vatican employees, pouting waitress, habitual line cutting and presence denying, and a Roman throwing something out the window at us.
Our first stop was St. Peter's Basilica which is about the most opulent (ironic, no?) building you can ever imagine and climbed the cupola - our third this year - for an awesome view of Rome. We then went to the opposite end of the Vatican to visit the museum which really doesn't have much Greco-Roman history that other museums don't BUT does have the Sistine Chapel which capped off a Michaelangelo heavy week for us.
The final event was a walk down the Tiber river to the very cool Trastevere (literally 'across the river') neighborhood for dinner and drinks which capped off a solid 15 hours outside of the apartment and just shy of our 16 hour goal. We will try harder tomorrow.

Sistine Chapel before being physically stopped from taking pictures but a random tour guide. We thought it was OK since the church operates a cafe right at the entrance to the chapel. |
